I have decided that it would be more productive to post end of week wrap-ups to let our readers and family know what we did throughout the week. I will also post special separate things of on goings around Castle Academy but my main focus will be the wrap-ups, at least until I change my mind again .
So here is a look at our first two weeks back in the New Year…

Prince has made another change in his curriculum, after a couple of lessons in the Apologia General Science, he decided that he was not ready for this upper level Science. It is not that I agree with him, because I KNOW he can do it, but I have no problem with him making this decision. So for Science he is working on the Answers in Genesis God’s design for Life. Both he and Princessa are working in the World of Animals book. HE is on the mammals unit, and although he knows what a mammal is this has given him the opportunity to work on his research skills also. He is given a different unique animal each week to find out all the information he can on it, which he seems to be enjoying. He has also been keeping a science notebook which he enjoys drawing in.
Math, as mentioned before is finally coming along. He has grasp the concept of multiplying and dividing fractions, it is not that he did not understand he just hated all the steps it takes it get to the answer, but I finally got him to understand the importance of each step, at least I think . He has moved on to a simpler concept for now and is working with decimals, he is going to be upset with me for I have decided to move, or rather move through this fast because they come so easily (we still have another year to catch up on).
Language Arts on a whole is simple enough for him that we have no major struggles.

Princessa is my easy going student, and is moving along in everything quite nicely. She is also doing the AIG science, and just finished up the Fish and Birds unit. She was fascinated to learn that the Shark had no bones in it’s body and chose to do her report on it, I think this has become her favorite animal! She to is doing a lot more research using this curriculum but enjoys it, coming from a mom who use to read the encyclopedia for fun, I could not be happier!
Math just seems to come easy to her and man am I GLAD! She barely needs any help in new lessons and pretty much teaches herself, she did NOT get this from me! She could probably get the book finished early, but insist that she hates math so I let her move at a new lesson a day.
Grammar is kind of a struggle for her, but not the harder concepts, such as the parts of speech. She can pick apart a sentences just as good as Prince and on his level. I praise Easy Grammar for this! It is just so much easier to be trained to find the preposition first, every student should be taught this way! But back to the subject, what gives Princessa trouble is contractions and plurals. I am tempted to not worry about the contractions being that they are really not proper English and not allowed in high level papers, but I understand they may come in handy one day? I have begun pulling this from Pinterest to help her on this. As for the plurals she understands what they are, it is just the spelling part that gets her, especially the ending O’s and the IES’s. But I have faith that we will get through it.

Lady Jey is coming along through her studies. Her reading is becoming a lot stronger and we have also been working on spelling. She has also been introduced to a couple of 4 letter words and sight words. I though at first she would struggle but she is skipping through with a smile . She can even spell a couple of her sight words! I think I am more excited then her, only because I did NOT expect it to be this easy! She is still enjoying her SonLight read alouds, but I am starting to think we should have gone with a more advanced Core, but we will work it out.
Math is simple enough for her also, we worked on measuring the first week and then on to time this past week. I thought we would need an extra week for this just because of past experience, with the other children, but she caught on the first day! and was bored with it the second, so needless to say we are flying through the BJU math book.
We had finished our BJU science book before Christmas, so while organizing and cataloging our home library (OCD much), I ran across a book we already owned and decided it would do the job until I came up with something better. So both the little ones have been using My Very First Encyclopedia with Winnie the Pooh and Friends, more encyclopedia work! just trying to push my love of research off on my kids. They enjoy looking and reading about the different pages of animals. The full color picture of each animal is beautiful! By reading this book Lady Jey has learned so far what a mammal and bird are and their characteristics. I think we will stick to this until we finish it, since it is teaching them something. I also purchased the complete set of Magic School Bus episodes, while on sell may I add, and we have been using these in the morning while eating breakfast. I know they are a little advanced for the little ones but they are such a great way to introduce the little ones to science topics and help review the olders on topics they have already learned.

Lady Bells is still not doing much in the way of typical learning but she is absorbing all she can. I think the Magic School Bus episodes are her favorite and she ask to watch them as soon as she opens her eyes in the morning. She still enjoys listening to Lady Jey’s stories and “helps” me while doing word work with Lady Jey. Last week she started saying the words along with Lady Jey, so I know she is learning, in secret! When we review a letter every week she knows it and it’s sound and will complete a color sheet of the letter, but this is the only worksheet type learning she will agree to do which suits me fine. She shies away when we do math work, has to be my blood! but once we break out the Winnie the Pooh encyclopedia she is ALL ears! She loves trying to guess the next animal we will read about and gets excited to see the pictures of the animals, especially the ones of the baby animals.

As for our group learning we are sailing through. Still enjoying SonLight and ALL it offers. For History we are right at the Revolutionary war, which seems to be Prince’s favorite topic! He enjoys reading all the information he can get for this period. And as for the read aloud, Johnny Tremain, they are absorbing it and are upset every time we put it down for the day. Princessa does not seem to be as interested in History as much as Prince but I understand each is different, as long as she shows some understanding I will not worry.

In Bible, we started our Apologia Who is God and Can I Really Know Him? The first weeks went by slow but it was just the introduction but on Friday it picked up and we are getting into the purpose of the book, to learn how to discern the truth Biblically. I say the first week was slow for us, not that it was not necessary nor was it not good, but the first couple lessons deal with becoming a Christian which both of my older children are. So they found it kind of strange to be talking about this, when they have already accepted Christ as their Savior.
I have to say our time back after the break has been great! I don’t know if it is because we just needed a break after being in school since July or just because we have finally fallen into our new routine. Whatever the reason I simply enjoyed the past two weeks and I know I owe all of it to God! My prayer is that things continue to go so smooth so that we can enjoy our learning together!
So until next time, This is our days at CA!
It has been awhile since my last post, and a lot has happened. First of all I have to admit that blogging seemed to become more of a chore then for fun, so I have decided to stop posting every little thing about the little ones schooling. They don’t seem to mind because they were getting a little camera shy. Plus making and posting all of our Collections were getting in the way of other things that should have been happening instead, so I decided to put those off for a while also since Lady Jey is really not using them any more and Lady Bells will not use them in full until maybe next year.

On my last post I posted about Lady Jey’s first book, since then she has read many more and is doing good. We have completed the Math U See (MUS) Primer and decided that MUS is just not for us and have moved on or rather back to BJU math, only because it is what Princessa used and we already own it. We also finished the BJU science we were working on, so I am in the process of looking for something for her to do. We are still doing Sonlight but I am not really happy that Sonlight does not introduce sight words in a “normal” way, so I have decided, that we will add in the You can Read curriculum that we started last year and finish it up. Although things are going to change up a little Lady Jey is doing really well, kindergarten is NOT as stressful as I thought it would be, that summer before we started. I am really enjoying teaching her, and I am really glad we went for a more laid back approach.

As for Lady Bells, “school” has kind of slacked off a bit. She is really not into doing worksheets or her notebook everyday. She still reviews the letter sounds at least once a week and we do some counting and she listens to Lady Jey’s stories but that is all the school she is up to doing these days. This does not alarm me in the least, I have since come to realize that all of my children are different and sometimes it takes different levels of maturity to be introduced to certain things. So things that she just didn’t get this year will come automatically next year. I have also decided that I will probably wait to start official kindergarten with her, the year she will be six, it just seems that things are easier to grasp, for them at this age. But we will see!

Princessa has since finished her study of the human body using the Answers in Genesis curriculum, and is now doing The World of Animals. I really like this curriculum because of it being from a young earth perspective but using Sonlight has turned me on to the the use of living books, so I am on the fence as to rather or not I will continue with AIG. Princessa seems to like AIG so I guess for now I will continue with what we are doing and maybe use Sonlight science over the summer? As for math, we have done away with MUS at this level also. This decision was not taken lightly because I did love the approach of MUS and Princessa was doing really well in it. I made this decision based solely on the struggles that Prince was having in math, more of this below, and the drive to get back to simpler things. I decided to go with Rod and Staff to meet our needs. Not only is this curriculum VERY cheap it is simple. Simple for me to teach and they really get the concepts easily. Fourth grade at this stage has been a breeze for Princessa, no real struggles and I pray it will continue to be.
Prince is finally catching up in math, YAY! As mention above MUS was just not working for us partly because he did not learn the concepts needed in public school to complete the level of math expected of his grade level. We tried everything! After much tears from him and lots of prayers on my part everything came together when a neighbor introduced me to Rod and Staff. Not that I have not seen it before, but I dismissed it as old fashion and boring, what with all of these new math curriculums out there how could it even be remotely compared. Boy was I WRONG! Prince instantly caught on! I don’t know, maybe it was all the distractions of the previous curriculum, not just MUS, that was holding him back, maybe it was the one on one teaching he needed, I don’t know. But I truly have to say Rod and Staff was a Godsend! The spiral approach is what he needed not the one concept approach of MUS that I thought would help. Rod and Staff is how I learned to do math so that helps when trying to teach him something he doesn’t understand. I say to any of you out there that have little ones who struggle in math, Do not overlook Rod and Staff as an option! It is simple and basic and does the job! without the higher price of the “newer” curriculum. As for science, he has finished his Creation or Evolution book and is still excited when he can discuss these things with anyone who is willing to listen, so of course that makes me excited that I went with my gut in picking this science for him to do. He has now started on his upper level science, and is doing Apologia Exploring Creation with General Science, he was VERY excited to start this because of all the experiments he will be doing, I was excited because I DON’T have to help . I am not a very hands on learner and just reading about the experiment does it for me so thankfully these experiments or pretty straight forward and he can do them himself plus they offer a companion CD that explains the experiments.

, One of Prince’s first experiments with his new science. Using water, corn syrup, and oil. With a grape, a small pebble, a piece of cork, and an ice cube.

Our group studies have been very pleasing, we are ALL loving Sonlight history, everything from the read-alouds to the readers. There have been a couple of books that we did not get through, such as Walk the Rim and Lawn Boy, which came highly praised, but there have been others that we truly LOVE such as Sign of the Beaver (I also recommend the movie based on the book Keeping the Promise), Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans and Landmark History of American People some of these being ones that others said were difficult to get through. At first, I have to admit I was a little skeptical about this curriculum, “how could we learn about history by just reading books” again I was wrong to think this, we have learned SO much, even me a self proclaimed history buff! The Holzmanns have weeded out all the nonsense books and have truly given a blessed history curriculum in Sonlight!
We have finished the Armor of God Bible study we started in the Summer. This should not have taken so long but we had some interesting discussions that came from these lessons, so all in all I am happy with it. After much searching on my part for our next Bible study I decided on Apologia’s Who is God? because it offers in it’s reviews what I am wanting for my children, a way for them to “ discern among competing ideas and stand in the truth”. I am excited about this and can not wait to start it. We also started the series What’s in the Bible, starting with Why Do We Call It Christmas over our break and continuing on through the Bible Series. I am excited about these also, and can’t wait to dive in!

December marked our halfway point and in all this year has been our best year, of course last year I felt the same! We have been blessed beyond what we deserve, and I can not thank God enough for giving us the blessed opportunity to homeschool. I look at my little ones everyday and do not regret the decision I have made, I truly feel blessed to be a part of this experience with my children, to have them with me each and everyday, to know exactly what they are doing and what they are learning, that is the job God gave me as their mother and I can, with my whole heart say I am doing my part!
Until next time!
As I have mentioned before, Fall is my favorite time of year. One reason being the beautiful colors the trees show off during this season. As a tribute to this we painted our own Fall trees using our own pointillism method, (q-tips).
Cars for girls who would have though?! I would have never tried this on Princessa, who is all girl, but Lady Bells plays with Prince’s old playschool cars so I thought why not. Things went great! She also enjoyed the new worksheets I created for this collection. Here is our week in pictures…

An activity I completely forgot about… Even though it had nothing to do with cars, I pulled the stickers and sticker books back out both of the girls love adding new stickers to their books and Lady Bells can finally pull them off on her own which made it all the more enjoyable for her. The stickers were of zoo animals in anticipation of our up coming zoo trip.
This week we reviewed the letter R using race cars. I was a little apprehensive about using cars for my little princesses but they showed no disapproval, Lady Jey said she liked the cute designs. I think her favorite activity was throwing the photo blocks or “education cubes” and graphing the pictures.
For her creative writing journal she had to write about something she enjoys making or doing giving step by step directions. For science we studied the parts of a plant naming the root, stem, and leaves. We also discussed the parts that we eat. This called for a fun trip to the produce section in Wal-mart.

We also worked more on handwriting and writing her name is her favorite!

She also had a lot of different worksheets on her level. She was getting bored with the ones from the pervious collections so with this new one I made a lot of different ones, such as…

Princessa is still studying the human body using AIG curriculum. We are both enjoying it and it is easy enough for her to understand but not to simple that it bores her. She has learned about the skeletal system and the names of some of the major bones, The brain and the different parts and what they are used for, The muscular system along with the heart, We tracked what she ate while learning about the digestive system, She is now on the five senses, and even though she learned about this in 1st grade, this curriculum took it to the next level by learning about the individual systems.

She studied the eye and the pupil, and is now on the tongue and the different sections.

Through the whole study she has been keeping a science notebook, which is a great way to keep all you have learned in one place.

While learning about the skeletal system she included a tiny human skeleton. While studying the eye she drew the different properties of the pupil. And while learning about the tongue she included a map of the taste sections.

She also spent alot of time doing the activities on Virtual Body, a web site I found on Pintrest.

When we are finished studying the body she will put together a lapbook that I found on Pintrest as her final “test”.
To compliment our A for apples unit we did an apple tasting activity. This is how I got Prince a couple years back to even taste an apple. Anyway we did it again this year because Lady Jey is older and could be more involved.
Over the weekend I gather a couple of different types of apples that were new to our tasting. Some of these is for an apple desert I am going to cook later in the week.

I prepared a simple graph chart so that could chart the different taste and texture. I then gather the kids around the table

and we were off.
The favorites ended up being…
This week went a little better with Lady Bells, ok so I bribed her with paint but hey do what works right?! She was also really excited by all the apples around. And on apple tasting day she was the first at the table! She also set with Lady Jey a lot this week just looking in on what she was doing, this really excites me because she learns a lot more by watching then doing. This was how she learned her letters last year, which I had no idea until this year!
Anyway we worked on identifying colors by coloring in her apple coloring book, which I found on Pintrest.

She was really excited about filling in her chart like the big kids for the apple tasting .

She did a finger painting of an apple tree, but she was only interested in doing the red apples… and making sure to wipe off her fingers after every apple! (she doesn’t like dirty hands)

She worked on pre-writing skills which I am happy to say she finally realized she had to follow the lines not just connect the pictures! YAY!

I didn’t get her to do all of the worksheets in our Collection but at the end of the week she could identify the letter A and knew its sound and I am happy with that!
This is my favorite time of the year! The apples, the cool breeze, The beautiful colors, Tis the season of family time! We kicked off the season with A for apple, reading about Johnny Appleseed and an apple tasting. but that is just the start, oh, the things I have planned!
Lady Jey even seemed more spirited while doing her apple activities. Could it be that talks of Christmas have started in the Castillo household ! Don’t deny it, it is all but 12 weeks away!
But back to the time at hand, Here is our week in pictures…

identifying the letter A by placing apple stickers on all of the letter A’s. Lady Bells had to help with this one. She loves watching sissy do her work.

Apple counting… She made apple finger prints to match the number printed in each column.

finger painting… She was suppose to color in the rest of the picture but painting was the only thing that appealed to her that day!

she completed other fun worksheets found on different sites around the web, many of which I found pinned in Pinterest.

We have finished up our study of forces in science with magnets being her favorite. For her journal she wrote about an apple tree and for math we are studying decimal street in MUS. Next week we will be adding in our Social Studies part of Sonlight, we are excited for the many books we will get to read together.
This was a really fun week working with apples and talking about fall, thanks for reading with us here at CA!
School did not go to well this week, she was more interested in playing with her toys then learning about her letter. I do not worry about this to much because she will have another year to review before starting Kindergarten so I did what she would do then let her go. Here is our week in pictures…

Prewriting: We are still working on this concept, she doesn’t yet understand that she has the trace the lines but we are getting there!

play-dough mat: She just likes playing with it, she doesn’t really make the letters yet.
3 weeks and things are still going strong, in fact I think she is becoming a little bored I may have to move up starting the You can read curriculum sooner then planned. Anyway we reviewed T, learned to write higher numbers, we also learned about forces, she especially like playing with the magnets, and wrote another entry in her creative writing journal.
This time her journal was about a special visitor. It really touched me, and it will the person to, if you are reading this, that she remembered the visit.
She talked about playing frisbee with Uncle Ron and when asked about how she felt she said, “ It made me happy to play with Uncle Ron but sad to because Nanny Donna has not been back!” I think it is time for another visit!
Here are some pictures of our week…
From counting marsh mellows to a little bed jumping, supervised of course! We read 10 little monkeys jumping on the bed and she sang the song for the rest of the week. I gave her the How many game board from our CA Collections and let her act out the story.
I am so glad that I stumbled upon Erica’s LOTW last year and worked through it with Lady Jey, Because this year is sailing through. Ok I know it is only the 3rd week but we have had no real hiccups, she is totally adjusted to school and really doesn’t need the full week with one letter. I may have to do something different here soon but for now it is working to have the time for everyone to adjust to the routine.
I was SO second guessing myself with teaching her to read but now I see she is totally ready for it this year YAY LOTW! Even the science concepts we are working on are sticking with her and she truly seems to be enjoying it!
So here is a little peek at our week (or what I was about to capture)

We did M for Monkey this week and for practice counting to 15 she did How many Monkeys on the bed.

We also did monkey graphing, which is included in the M for Monkey.

We did our first journal entry, according to Sonlight’s creative writing. She dictates the story to me while I write for now. Her story was about a girl who had a robot friend. This is them jumping on a bed.
We also finished up our Sun, Moon, Starts in science. She enjoyed the moon the best and would watch for the moon every night to tell me what phase it was in. She also at her age understood that the moon had no light of it’s own that it was like a mirror and reflected the sun’s light. She also understood the sun to be a star closest to the earth. I love the way BJU breaks it up simple enough for her to understand but also gives me the opportunity to introduce other facts that I believe she would also understand.
All in all our third week of Kindergarten went by fast but it was great. Thanks for visiting us here at Our Days at CA!
This week on the “Not “ Back-to-School blog hop I had a peek into the life of many homeschoolers. and I have to say some made me green with envy. The beautiful routines and schedules are to die for. It makes me wonder where did I go wrong, why can’t I do that. Then I turn green with something else, remembering the days we tried to follow a schedule…
I have to admit laid back is the style here. Lists are not my thing, when I had one it sucked the fun out of the whole day. I fought to stay on task while the kids just fought. That was the first 6 months of our first year, then they were out the door and in the trash, the list of course!
Having a laid back style has worked for us so far and I don’t plan on changing that anytime soon. We do, however have points throughout the day that sort of serve as a routine…

School starts at 8:30
Lunch is at 11:30
group is after lunch (while Lady Bells naps)
day ends at 4:00
Anything between these times depends on how everyone is doing on any given day. The two older ones have independent work which we call self work and they also have time with me. Lady Jey is just starting into self work so sometimes I am still helping her through this time. Lady Bells works with me for 30 minutes and then has a notebook that is full of fun tot-school things for her to do, she can do these are have free play with anything in the school room.
The order that we do the subjects depends on the “feel” of the day, sometimes math with Prince can get tedious so if he is in a “good” mood we do math early if he isn’t we wait till dad comes home to get it done in this case school doesn’t end at 4. I say we end at 4 but if it is a good day for everyone we can end as early as 1:00.
To keep myself on track and to make sure I am getting everything done, I made a list of everything I am to do with each child. I put this into a laminated pouch and as it gets done we check it off. It sort of looks something like this… nothing fancy!

This list only includes the things that I work on with each child, they have other things that they work on individually which is stored in their weekly workboxes (my spin on the workbox).
So that is our schedule, for the Day in the life of… Castle Academy!

This week we did our second week of our CA collections. It is surprising to see how far Lady Bells has come since just last year! She is able to remember the letters we are working on along with their sound. This I have to credit to the Leap Frog Letter Factory DVD, she loves the catchy little tune and can be found often singing it. She has also gotten very independent and does most of her notebook by herself. I can already see that I will be searching for new things for her to do very soon!
So here she is in action with some of the activities included in B for Ballerina…
Beginning handwriting:
I have to be honest and say I was dreading the day Lady Jey would enter Kindergarten mainly because it would be the first year of teaching it and I put SO much emphasis on this year. The stereo –typical have two's of this year scared me! But over the summer I came to the realization that I was putting myself under un-needed stress, that all children are not the same, that we are homeschoolers so why mold myself to the have two's of public school. So I took a step back and gave myself room to breathe and decided that I would take each day at a time… So what if she doesn’t learn to write every letter, so what if she doesn’t know every sight word, so what if she is not reading by the time school is out, she is Lady Jey not every other kid in kindergarten. She can only do what she can do and I can only teach her the skills she is able to learn. Why rush it and struggle when we can go on our own time and perfect it.
Saying this out loud to myself has done wonders and now I am ready for a fun laid back year of learning what God has set out before us and with HIS hand in it, everything will come at the RIGHT time on HIS time!
Now that that is out of the way, she has been doing good. Her handwriting has taken off since last year, with no real work over the summer. We are using the Reason for Handwriting curriculum and she actually understands what each line is used for after only two weeks, this is a big jump from last year. I made her her own “tree house” to write on, that will change with the season…

For Science we are using BJU science 1. We used this with Princessa in 1st grade but I felt it was more on a kindergarten level so we are going to try it out, and so far it has worked out great. She has learned about her 5 senses and is now learning about the sun, moon and stars which promises to be really fun with some lapbooks thrown in.

She also completed some of the older level pages out of our CA Collection B for Ballerina.

This fall we plan on starting Sonlight with her for history and language arts. I figured starting her with a little at a time would be a gentler approach rather then bombarding her with everything at once. But I am excited to get it started! We will see if she shares my excitement!?
And that is Kindergarten here at Our Days at CA!
I can not believe how the years have passed by, it has been 4 years since we have started down this path but it seems like just yesterday. I started out scared and unsure how things would turn out and here I am 4 years later, happy and have loved every minute of it. I have loved every special moment that I have spent with my babies and can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us, and the many years left to come!
And so I introduce you to MY class of 2012/13…

Prince and princessa, who were my guinea pigs, have grown up quite fast. It is hard to believe that I taught Princessa in 1st grade and here she is now in the 4th grade. And Prince who had the most experience with public school has made the switch so smoothly without any complaint.

And my two babies Lady Jey and Lady Bells who have known nothing but homeschooling and have been involved since they could crawl. I remember the days Lady Jey use to cry to do school and my endless hours of searching the net and discovering Tot-school. Which Lady Bells is now in her last year of doing, (sniff) .
I am so proud of my babies, but it also makes me sad to see how fast they are growing and becoming more and more independent.
Our first week of school went great. For the days we did school anyway.
Monday we had music lessons and class, this was a first for us also. We were there all day for the 3 different levels on a trail run. At the end of class we decided that Lady Jey and Princessa would stick with these classes.

Tuesday we had math class at the grocery store. Each of the older two was given a budget and a portion of the grocery list and set out to shop, both did well with this. We then came home and went swimming in the community pool that we now have all to ourselves!
Wednesday dad was off so we had to run some errands with him. Although the older two did some self work we did not get much in the way of teaching done.
Thursday was our first sit down day to enjoy in our new classroom. Prince seemed to enjoy his Creation or Evolution studies. Princessa has started her Human body unit with AIG. Lady Jey was excited to start her science with BJU and Lady Bells is just excited to be back to the school routine.

Friday was our second in classroom day and I have to say I am really enjoying the bigger classroom! I have to thank my husband for letting us take over the living room and allowing us to move the TV to the smaller room.
Today was lady Jey’s first science experiment, she is learning about the 5 senses so we did a tasting experiment. I think she is going to enjoy the hands-on that BJU offers along with the nature study that Sonlight has. The two younger ones completed the F unit that I made and it is so cute to hear Lady Bells singing the letter song from Leap letter factory. At the end of the day we finished up with the game I created to go along with the F unit, and ALL the kids joined in, it was a fun week!
The things I included in them for Lady Jey challenged her just like I wanted them to while the younger things kept Lady Bells occupied so I was happy.
Here is a complete look at some of the things included in the collection…
I started working on these last year but have not formally introduced them so I will do so now.
Lady Jey and Lady Bells will both be working this year on a letter of the week type format and even though there are some great materials online for this type of thing, we love you Erica!, they were not challenging enough for Lady Jey anymore. So rather then keep pulling things from here and there I decided to create my own things. I work on them all summer and come up with some things that I hope will challenge Lady Jey, for awhile anyway, while still holding Lady Bells’ attention. I got my ideas form some GREAT ladies and would like to thank Erica, Carisa, and a few others…
As the weeks go along I will post these incase anyone of you would like to use them also. Just remember they are for personal use only.
Since we are using Sonlight this year with Lady Jey the collections will be published in the order that the curriculum introduces the letters. I will also at times add more things to individual collections as she outgrows some things so A may be more advanced than Z but I will try to update all of them as time allows.
As this is going out we are working on letter F and the girls seem to be enjoying it as I hope others will also!
Thanks for joining us here at Our Days at CA!Brandy Castillohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04790032073356086115noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2789403892606086069.post-52926886984431459072012-08-16T17:25:00.000-05:002012-08-16T17:35:47.405-05:00Our “big” classroom
We have been doing some remodeling for the sole purpose of having a bigger classroom, but now that I have the space I don’t know what exactly I want to do with it. So since the school year has snuck up on me I have thrown something together in order to get things done this year and to see how the space works for us. So without further ado here it is… Well as much as will fit into the shot.

now I will break each section up for you…
to the left in the above picture is our workboxes (didn’t fit into shot), are our workboxes that we use on a weekly schedule instead of a daily one. On top of our boxes are their caddies that house their crayons, pencils, glue… The cabinet to the left of the boxes holds our extra supplies and bigger art supplies. The white shelves in the middle are suppose to be hung on the wall by now but haven’t really decided where to put them.

Following along the wall we have our piano, our cube shelving from Amazon, we have this one and this one stacked together. Each of these selves hold a different subject materials. The boxes hold small items for Art, Math and Bible. Each child also has their own boxes that holds their library books and fun activities to do in class. On top we have our Geography shelf. The cabinet to the right houses our games. Ignore the boxes on top, they haven’t found a home yet. The table is where the children work again with each a color coded chair. The creates under the table hold the two older children’s notebooks. The caddy in the middle holds color pencils.

The next wall is our shelf that holds all of our fun kindergarten/ preschool items. The other shelf hold our ABC letter books and extra books. The desk in the middle hold our school laptop, radio, lamp, and pencil sharpener. The bottom shelves contain art paper and some more extra materials.

Around the corner on the next wall is my desk and tot school. We have a bucket of extra fun toys beside her tot shelf. The green basket holds her color books and dry erase board. The little table is where her action takes place, the notebook on top is where I put all her paper work. The pink basket under the big table is where I put all the letter books for that week.

The shelf in the corner hold all of our Sonlight books for this year’s cores. The table is where I spread out an get things ready for each week and where I help the children in our 1on 1 time. The pink poster on the wall is for our word wall. The white shelf on the side holds all the TMs and student books for this year.
Up until now I have been debating and praying on what our “new” school year will entail, and I think this week I have come to a final decision. I have broken up our year for a more manageable calendar but that will come later… and have made my final curriculum choices, I have had these plus others, just not sure on which ones I would keep and continue with and which would get chucked. Some things have already been started while others we will start in the fall, which is when our official new year starts.
2 small onions
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
